Prez-2008: Who do you like?

With the recent news that Russ Feingold will not be running for President, I'm at a loss for who to support.

Hillary Clinton, with her lurching to the right, does not appeal to me.  Tom Vilsack, the only announced candidate at this point, is probably not going to win the primary.  In fact, many of the whispered candidates do not excite me at all.  Joe Biden?  No way.  John Kerry?  Not really.  Al Gore?  No thanks.

So who do you like in this race?  Who should carry the banner for Dems in 2008?

For me, Al Gore or Wesley Clark.

I am not crazy about Biden, Clinton, or Kerry either.

Being from North Carolina, I wouldn't be opposed to Edwards either!

Obama, Obama, Obama.

Smart, likable, candid, liberal. And he's the one with real positive forward momentum at this point.

Edwards all the way!  I would like to see Gore as VP again.  This would add an interesting little quirk in that Gore would make history too.  He would be the only VP to have been duly elected and served under two separate duly elected presidents.

Al Gore has has re-invigorated himself with his incredible work on an "Inconvenient Truth" and the speeches he has made about the Iraq war. He has learned his lessons from his last campaign about being genuine.

John Edwards is fantastic on the poverty issue, the only contender that seems to really be focusing on that (most just talk about the middle class).

Either of these 2 would be great candidates.

Wesley Clark I would also consider, but I would need to know more.

I might have to go with Mike Gravel. Of course, I live in Iowa, so the likelihood of my vote for Gravel surviving the 15% threshold and being recorded is close to nil.

"close" to nil? (3.00 / 1)

Nah, it is nil :)

Go, Johnny, go!

Re: Prez-2008: Who do you like? (3.00 / 1)

I'm starting to really like Wes Clark. I think it's great that he campaigned for Ned Lamont. He seems to have made a point of learning from his run in '04, and improving his speaking, etc. I admire people who can accept that they have areas to improve and then set about improving them. I think his military experience would be viewed as a genuine plus. He was a part of Clinton's military successes and not a part of Bush's military disasters. He's not tainted by having voted for the war as are so many of the other potential candidates.

I just dread the slate of congressmen/senators that are going to run. Joe Biden, for example, should be thrilled to get the top committee spot he's going to get. Running for President will just be a gigantic waste of time and money for him. In my view, they are pretty much all tarred by their collective ineffectiveness during these last 5 years.

John Edwards is also interesting. I'd be excited by a Clark/Edwards ticket.

I love Al Gore but I don't want to emotionally invest in a man who says he's not going to run. If he doesn't, boy, I would love to see him in a key position - head of the EPA? - in our next Democratic President's administration.

I'm thinking Obama or Clark with Mark Warner as the VP.

Re: Prez-2008: Who do you like? (3.00 / 1)

John Edwards, for his stand on poverty, for his stand on America working to gain moral authority on the world stage (and even more, for being able to do it in a way that is positive instead of being a guilt trip), and for being willing to say the "s" word about Energy independence.

At NH AFL-CIO, Labor Day (Youtube)

After JRE, Al Gore, for his stand on the climate crisis and his experience in world affairs at the top level (the only potential candidate on the Democratic side that has that kind of experience).

After Al Gore, someone who can win and at the same time attract the slings and arrows of outragous Republican attacks, so that more gains can be made in the Senate and House.

Bill Richardson-

Richardson- Hispanic Male from the Southwest- Hispanics are a key consituency for the Democratic Party- It is growing. Southwest is a region that is gaining in population- Plus the Moutain West States-ie Colorado/Montana is trending Democratic.
Richardson has a strong resume- US Congressman,UN Ambassador and Energy Secretary under Bill Clinton- met face to face with North Korea Dictator Kim Jong IL. Governor of a border Southwestern State. Chairman of the DGA- Democrats picked up 6 Governorships and now hold majority of the State Governorships.

For VP- Barack Obama- after 2 terms as VP Obama will be seasoned for the top job in 2016.
